My ideation on this project

Since this is a group assignment, I believe that each of us in the visual ideas division group will need to generate lots of ideas before having everything finalised. Therefore, my ideation is based on the concept of changing color of the text being used in the flash. For example, at the phrase of : Due to the still existing phenomena of called racism, nationalistic popularism and xenophobia................

visual idea

This is a piece of paper which contain our sketches of visual idea  for our cg assignment 3. Tthis is our first idea before we start the process of making the short video. Our group leader (yen yin)is a very dedicated person and she has added in some of her ideas in this particular video to make it more attractive. Furthermore, the type motion is more suitable for our themes at the final outcome.

Kinetic Typography in Adobe Flash (Assignment 3)

Hi, I'm Yap Yen Yin. I'm in charge of compiling the ideas and sketches done by Low Jee Yen, Tan Shi Yuan, Tai Qiu Xian and I will be working on the decided scenes in Adobe Flash based on the audio recorded by Tan Hui Zhen and myself. Here I will explain about the techniques used in the making of this musical typography:

First the stage is set to 560x320.

When the  navigational button is done by Tan Shi Yuan & Tai Qiu Xian, it is set in the first keyframe of the entire work. From the second keyframe and onwards will be the musical typography.

Next, the edited audio is imported to the library.

Go to file>import>import to library>then choose the audio file from driver.

The audio file is in WAV format.

The audio file is then dragged to the stage from the library. Then the wave will be seen at the timeline. As the keyframes are not long enough to see the full audio wave, keyframes are added by pressing F5 of the keyboard.

Audio settings are set to its best quality by going to File>Publish Settings.

The check box for 'Convert stereo to mono' is unchecked.

Next, types are created. Each word is synchronized with the audio. When the types are made, they are converted to symbols to add effects.

As you can see in the timeline, the types turned into symbols and motion tween is created by going right click layer>Create Motion Tween.

Other from types manipulation using Free Transform tool, effects also added by going to Properties>Color effect>Alpha.

The types are also tweened to move in and move out of the stage using simple motion tween.

Some graphics are drawn by the Brush Tool ,

and are painted by Paint Bucket Tool, such as the red love.

Other graphics are drawn by Adobe Illustrator and are imported to Adobe Flash.

Some types are also styled using the free transform tool.

When the work is done, i published it by clicking File>Publish.

Our theme is 'diversity unites us', inspired by today's multicultural society.

We made the entire video using Adobe Flash (Adobe illustrator for drawing), hence,  it starts with a navigational button. And as it is in video format you are unable to click it. Anyway, enjoy!

Typography

Hi, I'm Yap Yen Yin and the group member who is responsible to turn the ideas of our group into a visual outcome using Adobe Flash. The musical typography is completed by using Adobe Flash Professional CS5 and a few simple steps and techniques are used as below:

First, the stage is set into 560x320 pixels.

Next, the navigational button that is created by Tan Shi Yuan & Tai Qiu Xian is placed at the first keyframe   at the timeline.

Then, the complete audio in WAV format that is recorded & edited by Tan Hui Zhen and me is imported into the library.

The audio is dragged to the stage and to view the complete waveform which is very long, we scroll to the end of the timeline and then hit F5 key at the keyboard to lengthen the keyframes. This is also done to make sure the audio file is not cut halfway when it is placed at the timeline.

Other from that, some settings are done by going to File>Publish Settings>Flash. At the sound settings, we unable the check box for converting stereo audio to mono, this will ensure that the audio will sound good in flash.

Next, texts are typed on to the stage with the Type Tool. Each word is placed in different layers. The ideas for scenes are also contributed by group members-Tan Shi Yuan, Low Jee Yen & Tai Qiu Xian, who work through generation of ideas through sketches.

To animate them, the texts are converted into symbols and Motion Tween is created.

With this way, the texts are animated to 'come in' the stage or 'go out' as we wish. Moreover, the shape of the words are also manipulated and set to change over time so they will look interesting and are able to deliver ideas to the audience.

Other from that, the colour settings of the texts are also being played around to create the fade in fade out effects. It is set by clicking the symbols>Properties>Colour Settings>Alpha.

Some graphics are created by using Brush Tool in Flash such as the love as shown above.

Then, it is being coloured easily by using the Paint Bucket Tool.

However, other graphics are drawn in Adobe Illustrator and they are imported into library and are converted to symbols before use.

Lastly, the uses of Free Transform Tool are also explored and texts in 3D effects are created as above.

When the typography is done, the work is published at File>Publish. The SWF file is saved and the final work is checked for any mistakes. Lastly, I used the Camtasia Studio software to record the playing SWF file on screen. With this, the whole project is converted into AVI form video including the navigational part of the project.

L@st assignment for computer graphics 3

This week onwards, there will be a group assignment for all of us and we are required to do a musical typography video on the theme of multicultural element.

The process on creating play button

Here is the step that I am going to show on how to create a play button.

First, open a new file which is in ActionScript 2.0 .

Here it is.

Select Oval Tool to draw circles.

Next, select colour for the buttons.

Draw Three circles as you can see below. The first and second circle will be in black series colour, whereas the third smallest circle will be in red colour.

Select Pain Bucket Tool to create a gradient view on those circles.

Click on the left up corner of the circle, it will show the brightest part on where you click on.

Second button will be brighten on the right bottom corner.

The red circle brightest part may be same as the first circle.

After that, use Selection Tool to move and group them as shown below.
As yo can see, the button will be in 3D looked.

Then, I would like to convert it into symbol.

To convert it to symbol, highlight the whole button.

Go to Modify - Create to Symbol...

There will a box appeared.

Name it as play_btn, and choose Button on Type. After done, you may click on ok.

Now it have converted into a button.

Double-click on the button, the timeline will turn into this that shown.

Press on F6 to go to the next frame of the timeline of button.

The Down frame is the one I going to work on, so, I press on another F6.

At this frame, I would like to change the red circle into green colour. This is because when peoples clicking the button, it will change to green colour which bring out the meaning "play".

Go back to Scene 1.

This image showed that if you don't want the button to appear at the on going frames, press on F7, then the button will disappear. And you may continue your work on the next frames.

As you can see, this will be shown at the second frame after pressing F7.

Now, I am going to work on the action script. At the first frame, press on F9. A box will appear. Type on the action script as shown below. This is to avoid the movie keep on play without stop when play in SWF file.

A symbol have shown that the action script have been done on the first frame.

Highlight the button, right-click on your mouse, go to Action. Another action script have to do on the button.

Type on the action script as shown. This is to stop the button once it have been click. If not, the button will keep on playing after you have click on it.

Now, I am going yo import a sound effect to the library. This is to use while clicking on the button. There will be a sound effect appear once you have click on the button. File - Import - Import to Library...

The sound effect have been imported to the library.

The sound effect will be put at the Down frame.

I drag the sound effect into the stage.

A symbol will be shown after you have located the sound effect.

At last, I will type on the word "Press the button to play" at the bottom of the button. This is to let peoples know that the button can be click.

Finally, I have done the button. It can be smoothly function if the action script are not wrong. Since lots of peoples face the problems on the action script that causes them could not play their button.

At here, I would like to share a video as reference on how to creating a play button.
